“We just used the telemedicine service yesterday, and I was highly impressed and pleased with our experience.
My daughter had been congested for 5 days, woke up with a minor sore throat and asked for cold medicine one morning which she NEVER does, so I thought it was the perfect time to try out the telemedicine service offered at her school. I had previously registered her for this service, so making the appointment online was even easier than I was expecting. I was at work and was able to receive notifications via email and called to pay the copay fee required by our insurance plan. I wasn’t sure if the school office would notify my daughter of the appointment, so I sent word through the secretary to her first period teacher to be in the school clinic 10 minutes before her official appointment time. Since this was our first time using the telemedicine service, I joined in on the Zoom medical appointment which was already in progress. The doctor was able to see my daughter’s throat and ears as well as hear her heartbeat through devices in the school clinic. It was just like a regular doctor’s appointment using today’s technology. My daughter missed out on about 30 minutes of her day while I was able to join in for 20 minutes of the appointment. The diagnosis required a prescription and it was ready to be picked up by the time my husband picked our daughter up from school. I highly recommend this telemedicine service to other schools throughout the state. I’m a public educator and would definitely use the service myself for the sinus infections I get a couple of times each year. It’s convenient, thorough and allows students, teachers and parents to miss less school/work time for minor sick appointments.
Thanks,”

“Here at LOA, the opportunity to have telemedicine at our school has been a life saver for me as a teacher and my family. The fact that I do not have to take time to leave school to attend a doctor’s appointment makes a huge difference and makes my life as a teacher and a mom so much easier. Even though telemedicine is not an in-person doctor’s office visit, the nurses that I have seen during my telemedicine visits are so knowledgeable, very thorough, and very caring. It is so nice to be able to video conference with them during the visit, while our school nurses are by my side to help too. Overall, telemedicine has been a wonderful experience for me and my family.
Thank you,”

“The ability to have telemedicine working in conjunction with our school nurses has been literally lifesaving. It has kept my children in class longer and as a teacher, myself in the classroom to provide instruction. Being seen at school not only has the benefit of not having to leave and schedule appointments at the pediatrician, but also leave school after a telemed appointment and head to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions instead of heading to a doctor’s office waiting room or urgent care center. Recently, after testing negative multiple times for covid, my normal cold symptoms worsened, and I accidently took too much Nyquil before bed followed by Dayquil in the morning in order to try and keep teaching and not miss class. I really started to feel dizzy teaching and normally would have pushed through it. I am so thankful that the convenience of the clinic being in the building helped me decide to just play safe and get checked out. Turns out the 12-hour cold meds taken 6 hours apart made my blood pressure shoot through the roof almost to a stroke level. I was able to run down to the infirmary where after seeing my blood pressure Nurse Harris initiated the telehealth appointment. In the time it took for my husband to drive to Lake Oconee Academy and pick me up, I had already had a telemedicine appointment and the nurse practitioner had already sent an antibiotic, steroid, and blood pressure medication to my pharmacy. We left school, drove to the pharmacy where prescriptions were waiting. I was back in the classroom the next day. Telemedicine and our amazing school nurses are such a blessing. “I love that LOA offers the telemedicine option. My child felt a little unwell one evening with a sore throat but no fever. I hate to keep her out of school unnecessarily but didn’t want to expose others if it was more than just allergy drainage. I was able to have her seen early the next morning through the telemedicine service. They have the ability to check ear drums and listen to lungs and all the things her doctor would do. We were able to document that she was Covid negative and get her some medicine to jump start her recovery. It was easy, inexpensive and hugely helpful. It is such a great service.” — Julie Gilchrist – Parent/Guardian at Lake Oconee Academy

“Having our LOA Clinic and Telemedicine has been really terrific! I was fighting a head cold for a good two weeks trying to power through, as we do. It got to a point when I realized I could not fight it with over the counter medicine any longer. I went on-line and registered within minutes, set up an appointment, and was thoroughly checked over by Carinthia, our high school nurse, and the online doctor. They were both very accommodating and kind. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and had a prescription waiting for me at CVS within a couple of hours. I am so grateful and thrilled to have this convenience for my health and well-being, because if I’m not well, I’m not able to give my best. Getting treated by a doctor without leaving work is priceless! Forever grateful.” — Angelica Wojciechowicz – Teacher at Lake Oconee Academy
